Dug Stanat began sculpting seriously in the early 90s, showing his work in galleries throughout Northern California. In the late 90s, he was struck with a desire to make his sculpture move, and his focus shifted from physical sculpture to 3D computer animation. In 2002, Stanat began work as a character technical director (digital puppet maker) at PDI/Dreamworks. His movie credits include HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 1 & 2, RISE OF THE GUARDIANS, SHREK 2 & 3, MADAGASCAR 1 & 2, PUSS IN BOOTS 2, and THE BEE MOVIE.
After twelve years at Dreamworks, his interest has shifted back to physical sculpture, and he now calls himself an independent sculptor once again. His work can be seen and purchased online, at conventions, and in art galleries, and has been featured in various publications, including the Spectrum and IBA fantasy art annuals.
