About Famous Monsters Halloween Bash™
The Famous Monsters Halloween Bash is a celebratory event produced by Cosmic-Con and hosted by the San Jose Convention Center, Oct 27-29, 2017. Among the announced guests are stars from HELLRAISER (Doug Bradley, aka Pinhead), GREMLINS (Zach Galligan), and RE-ANIMATOR (Jeffrey Combs), as well as Richard Brake from GAME OF THRONES and Jeff Daniel Phillips of HBO’s WESTWORLD. Original Scream Queen Adrienne Barbeau (SWAMP THING) will be there, along with legendary stunt man Tom Morga, who has played three different slashers on screen (Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, and Leatherface).
In addition to celebrity guests, vendors, and artists, Cosmic Con promises to bring virtual reality into the mix, debuting original VR material based on comics from American Gothic Press, Famous Monsters’ publishing division. “Virtual reality is at the cutting edge of entertainment,” says Kim, “and quality genre content is in high demand. AGP’s original horror properties have enabled us to develop our own.”
About Famous Monsters of Filmland®
The internationally distributed Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine was the first-ever Sci-Fi, fantasy, and horror pop culture fanzine of its kind, created by Forrest J Ackerman in 1958. Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, J.J. Abrams, Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro, Stephen King, and countless other influential artists in the entertainment field praise the magazine for inspiring them to dive into their craft. Established by Forrest J Ackerman to celebrate monster movies, genre films, and to unite fans from around the world, Famous Monsters strives to not only honor the classics while sharing new and upcoming projects but to also provide insight for readers on how to create their own monster and Sci-Fi films at home. From makeup tips to special-effects tricks, FM has become a “how-to” for generations of aspiring storytellers.
Cosmic-Con is the event division of Famous Monsters of Filmland, the world’s longest running entertainment fan magazine (est. 1958). For years, Famous Monsters has brought fans of sci-fi, horror, fantasy, and pop culture together at events across the United States. Cosmic-Con, officially established in 2012, developed as a natural progression of Famous Monsters as a means to champion, promote, and foster fan gatherings, including the world-renowned San Diego Comic-Con International. The mission of Cosmic-Con is to partner with the biggest names in the entertainment industry to bring audiences experiences that are truly out of this world.
Fans gather in masses to see John5 perform at Alien Con 2016 in Santa Clara, CA.
“Halloween has become the holiday when people just kick back and have fun,” says Cosmic-Con Producer and Famous Monsters Publisher Philip Kim. “There’s none of the stress of other traditional holidays; it’s just one big masquerade ball, and that’s exactly the vibe that Famous Monsters is going for in San Jose.”
“When I took over Famous Monsters, I knew that it came with some perks. You could spend a lot of money to start something new, but you can’t buy time. When something’s been around since 1958, you can buy that, but you couldn’t recreate that. You’d have to wait another 58 years.”
